BALTIC SYMPHONY FESTIVAL. MASKATS’S VERTICAL

BSF_Maskats_kvadr

Maskats is celebrating his anniversary this year, and his new work, dedicated to Latvia’s centennial, is based on the concept of the three Baltic states’ poetry and fate. Solo sings outstanding soprano from Lithuania – Vida Mikneviciute, that we know as virtuoso Margareth and Elisabeth, and Latvian tenor – heroic Aleksandrs Antonenko and mezzo-soprano from Estonia with a voice reminding of summer solstice flower’s fragnance – Mari Kalkun. The programme also includes Sibelius’s popular, ingenious Symphony no. 2 – the role of a herald of national ideas is occasionally attributed to this work.
