Ravel wrote his Bolero as an industrial prank and hardly considered it music, and yet it has become one of the all-time top hits of symphony music. To some, it may be an apocalypse, to others – sexual athletics; a rhythm-bound parade of wind instruments; a culmination lasting a quarter of an hour. You will also hear the astoundingly spry Piano Concerto in G major. In its translucent second movement, the musicians may even touch the sky – if they are lucky.
