February 17th – Vestard Shimkus together with LNSO conducted by Andris Vecumnieks makes a premiere of Piano Concerto by Latvian composer Georgs Pelēcis. The audience welcomes this performance very warmly and gives applause to the composer present in the Great Guild hall.
In the second part of the concert – Symphony No. 5 by Imants Kalniņš. The composition, performed in 1980 for the first time was a big sensation as it presents the glittering theme of a Latvian folksong in the finale of the symphony. This time as well. yet it different perspective in the interpretation by maestro Andris Vecumnieks, the symphony caused great emotions among the listeners and was taken with a great applause.
